Safety light barrier sensor

The light curtains types offered by Giesse Uk for secure opening of the speed door curtain differ in two different sizes.

• safety light height 2000 mm (2 metres)
• safety light height 2500 mm (2.5 metres)

The 2.5 metre light curtain is installed on coiling or roll-up doors that are higher than 2.6 metres. This allows the safe and smooth passage of lifting equipment that has to pass from different compartments of the warehouse or from outside to inside the hall.

2 metre safety light curtains are installed on speed roll-up door models such as Auto-full, Auto-pharma and Auto-fridge. These doors can also be installed with a smaller size of barrier.

In exceptional cases, it is possible to request safety light barrier sensors with smaller dimensions

These safety light curtains are not sold individually but in pairs, so in the case of purchase the customer will be supplied with two safety light curtains, one for the right-hand side of the rapid door and one for the left-hand pillar of the industrial closure.

For light curtain safety standards rapid doors must be a maximum of 11 metres wide, where the size of the industrial closure is wider per Giesse Uk safety standards the opening of the rapid doors will be manned.

Safety light curtain: installation

With the purchase of Giesse Uk High-speed doors, 2 light curtains are installed as standard already on the uprights so that further installation on site is avoided. In case of replacement of the safety light curtains, the correct installation can be checked in the user and maintenance manual supplied with the rapid door.

Old safety devices can be replaced with the new safety light curtains to create two walls invisible to the human eye around the danger zone, preventing accidents and increasing the safety of the machinery.

The photocells are connected to the control panel with 4 different wires on the right side of the rapid door. The electrical connections to be made are:

• White electric wire – 12/14 Vac (marked with number 10 in the installation manual)
• Brown electrical wire – 12/14 Vac (marked with number 11 in the installation manual)
• Yellow electric wire – Common (marked with number 21 in the installation manual)
• Green electrical wire – Photocells/light barrier (marked with number 15 in the installation manual)

On the left side, two electrical connections are made of the white and brown wire joined with the previously installed light curtain.

After each installation of light curtains, it is a good idea to carry out safety checks in order to verify their proper functioning during normal daily work.

Light curtains: safety regulations

Machinery placed on the market must comply with regulations for the safety of the working area and the personnel working with it. In fact, rapid doors must provide a safety opening to prevent the user or vehicle passing underneath from being crushed between the curtain and the floor.

For this reason, the rapid doors are equipped with safety systems to block the automatic movement both upwards and downwards with the red button adjacent to the machine, but also by safety systems equipped on board the machine such as light barriers, single-beam photoelectric cells or safety adge.

• Single-beam photocells are placed in the lower part of the rapid door to allow automatic opening when an object is detected.
• Safety edge is an item that is placed in the lower part of the rapid door mantle to allow opening only upon impact with an object.
• Safety light barriers have multiple beams allowing the detection of any movement for 2.5 metres from the foot of the pillar upwards, this feature allows greater safety than the accessories mentioned above.
